Grillz in Rummelsburg, Berlin

Rummelsburg is the bay. The Rummelsburger See opens off the Spree just south of Ostkreuz, lined with new apartment blocks on one side and houseboats and wild camps on the other, and it has been fought over by developers and residents for years.

Behind it sit the Kaskelkiez and Victoriastadt, a small grid of nineteenth-century streets that survived the war and the GDR more or less intact and now house a mix of long-time locals and young couples priced out of Friedrichshain.

It's a small area, but Ostkreuz on its doorstep is the busiest interchange in eastern Berlin — so meeting here is easy.
